About the Farm

Once a thriving dairy farm in the heart of Trappe Borough, since 2008 Northern Star Farm has focused on agricultural education through agricultural entertainment. They’re still an operating farm; growing corn and hay for the mushroom industry, and corn and soybeans for grain dealers in Lancaster. But they also offer a variety of year round activities designed to provide family fun, and to spread the knowledge of the importance of farming in today’s society.

Northern Star Farm has been owned by five generations of the Wismer family since 1927. The farm encompasses 230 acres, representing 18% of Trappe’s total land mass. And, through a series of transactions beginning in 1992, the entire farm has been given over to preservation through the Montgomery County Agricultural Land Preservation Program. The Wismer family is also active in preserving the history of Trappe Borough and the Collegeville region.

The farm is located near the intersection of Rt 113 and the Ridge Pike (Main Street in Trappe), and a few blocks from the Keystone Grange No. 2 and the Ursinus College campus. Community activities at the farm include school tours, a farmer’s market, a month of weekend festivities during the fall, and winter sleigh rides. They’re also a venue for private parties.
