Open House, Saturday October 16
Stop by “Woofs of Wisdom” in the lower level of Collegeville Station this Saturday, Oct. 16 between 1 and 4 p.m. Meet the trainers, their dogs, and clients and enjoy refreshments as you learn about all the services Collegeville’s newest business offers!
Woofs of Wisdom provides a broad array of training for a wide variety of breeds and temperaments, addressing literally every type of behavior. All in their climate-controlled new indoor training facility in the lower level of Collegeville Station.
Nicole McBride and her staff member, Debbie Tecce, have been providing dog training and behavior consulting professionally since 1995.
They create a constructive atmosphere for their training, which utilizes verbal cues and body language as a tool between owner and dog. Their training relies on positive reinforcement and the Volhard Motivational Method.
“We believe that dogs need to know your rules, boundaries and expectations,” says Nicole, “And we balance reward with recommendations and corrections where needed and appropriate.” They use a custom blend of methods; dogs and owners are not limited by one specific training approach.
During the training, Nicole and Debbie work to put all dogs and owners at ease using humor and easy-going styles. And there is a bonus: Nicole’s demo dog, a Rottie mix named Dozer, adds to the fun atmosphere. “He is a comedian and loves an audience,” Nicole explains. “When I am talking to him, he looks away toward the dogs and owners, rolls his eyes and smiles. Dozer loves all humans and animals. He has his own following. When I train fearful dogs, I bring him along. So many owners tell me that Dozer was their dog’s first friend.”
Dozer was a rescue dog. “I became his foster and knew in just minutes that I would keep him,” says Nicole. In addition to being a “demo dog,” Dozer is a certified therapy dog, holds a canine advanced title, a trick dog novice, and rally advanced title.
Training classes at Woofs of Wisdom extends from puppy playtime to different levels of obedience training, courteous canine manners, and socialization skills, to addressing canine aggression. Families wanting to have fun with their dogs can enjoy trick training, a dog agility and obstacles course and rally training. Therapy dog training is also available. Woofs of Wisdom offers both group and individual classes as well as phone, video and email consultation.
Private instruction is custom tailored to you and your dog’s needs, and can be held at your home. “I am also experienced in almost every training aid on the market and will work closely with you to find the methods and aids that will help you achieve your goals,” says Nicole.
“If there is any service you would like that is not listed on our website, feel free to contact us. We are happy to consider unique and custom requests. We are also available for public speaking, demonstrations and seminars on a variety of topics.”
What is the biggest problem people have when trying to train their dogs? “People don’t understand how important it is to be consistent,” says Nicole.
“You have to be careful about actions and expectations. Your dog needs to know what they are. You may find it endearing when your dog jumps on you, but then you get upset when he jumps on your guests. Eighty percent of dog training is actually teaching owners how to constructively interact with their dogs.”
Everyone is welcome in the classes. “The whole family can come,” says Nicole. “Kids often catch on more quickly than adults. We very much look forward to working with you and your furry companions!”
