L the Barber, originally from Norristown, worked at Poindexter’s Barber Shop on W. Marshall St., and credited the owner with keeping him on the straight and narrow. He then opened his own barber shop in Norristown, and was very active in the community, supporting their Borough Council, anti-violence marches, and many other community service activities.

Recently he decided to open a shop in Collegeville, since it is close to where he has lived for years, in the Borough. “I’m always very active in the community,” L says, “and I intend to get active here.”

One Stop Salon is a family barber shop that offers a full range of grooming services for men and boys. L, who has over 20 years’ experience, is familiar with all types of hair and styles. His goal is to make each customer look his or her best. He specializes in men, teens and boys’ haircuts and men’s shaves.

One Stop Salon offers comprehensive grooming services, and then goes beyond that. L is also a talented graphic designer who is into music and fashion. He loves both his barbering and graphic arts careers, and he has figured out a way to do both. Remembering how he was mentored in his youth, he has set up a graphic arts center at the back of his salon, where he designs Strategic Wear printed apparel.

He also teaches photography and videography, and has a modest recording studio in the shop. “I wanted to provide an atmosphere where interested individuals could grow and expand their creativity,” he explains. “I was mentored by Dewitt Poindexter and it made a big difference in my life. I would like to pay that forward to help others like Mr. Poindexter helped me.”

“This shop is a small prototype of what I want to do,” L says. He is also available to design custom tees and to do freelance photography.

Check out L’s shop and services in the front of Larry Hoak’s State Farm Insurance building on Collegeville’s Main Street.
