Slavery in the Age of Memory: Engaging the Past

  • Date: February 11, 2020 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm
  • Venue: Ursinus College - Ninth Ave Entrance (West Parking Lot)

UC Speaker Series, Musser Auditorium, Pfahler Hall.

In this lecture, Ana Lucia Araujo shows how current debates about slavery are more than simple attempts to come to terms with the past but are rather associated with persistent racism and racial inequalities which prevail in former slave societies or countries where slavery existed.

Currently Araujo is a professor of history at Howard University. She is a social and cultural historian whose work explores the history and the memory of the Atlantic slave trade and slavery and their social and cultural legacies.

This event is free and open to the public.
