Ursinus College Melrose Center for Civic Engagement presents a debate and discussion about the controversies that arise, on campus and off, over what hate speech is and what can be done about it.
These controversies are connected to the still broader core questions, ”How should we live together?” and “What will I do?”
Nadine Strossen, former president of the American Civil Liberties Union and Professor of Constitutional Law at New York Law School, is the author of Hate: Why We Should Resist it with Free Speech, Not Censorship.
Jeremy Waldron, University Professor and Professor of Law at New York Law School, is the author of The Harm in Hate Speech. Among the world’s leading authorities on the question of how best to confront hate speech, Strossen and Waldron will discuss their differences. They may even agree on some things.
The local community is welcome to attend this free event in Olin Auditorium on the Ursinus Campus.
